Case Study: W2D Branding

W2D Studio is a respected architecture and design firm based in Hanoi, known for its refined sensibilities and thoughtful approach to space. When they approached us, they were seeking more than just a logo. They needed a visual identity that captured their taste, conveyed confidence, and communicated the same sense of structure and timelessness found in their architectural work.

Our collaboration resulted in a custom serif wordmark and an original typeface tailored to support the Vietnamese language. Every element was built with clarity, balance, and purpose in mind.

Approach & Execution

Logo Design: Precision Through Typography

Instead of relying on icons or graphic marks, we focused entirely on typography as the visual voice of the brand. The final logo is a custom serif wordmark designed to feel strong, elegant, and quietly authoritative.

Typographic Harmony

To achieve a unified composition, we adjusted the letterforms so that the capital letters and the number in "W2D" match the height of the lowercase letters in "studio." This alignment creates a cohesive visual rhythm and reinforces the studio’s commitment to balance and proportion in their own design practice.

Consistent Letterspacing

The space between each letter was carefully considered to establish a calm, measured tone. Like W2D’s architectural work, the logo avoids unnecessary flair in favor of subtle consistency. The result is a mark that feels confident and controlled, with each letter working in harmony with the next.

The Dot and the Period

One of the most unique features of the logo lies in the relationship between the dot on the letter “i” and the period at the end. These two points align perfectly along a 45-degree diagonal, a small but intentional detail that speaks to the studio’s precision and eye for symmetry.

More importantly, the period isn’t just typographic punctuation. It’s a full stop with meaning. It marks W2D Studio as a definitive name in the industry, confident in its identity and direction. The name doesn’t just represent the firm — it asserts who they are.

Custom Typeface Development

Beyond the logo, we worked with W2D Studio to develop a complete serif typeface. This typeface was created from scratch and includes full support for the Vietnamese language, giving the studio a cohesive voice across every medium and every message.

Each glyph was carefully constructed to reflect the same sense of proportion and elegance found in the wordmark. Accents and diacritics required for Vietnamese were treated not as afterthoughts, but as essential parts of the system. The typeface includes multiple weights and is suitable for both large architectural applications and smaller digital or print uses.

Bringing the Brand to Life

To help visualize the brand in context, we created a series of mockups that showcase the logo in real-world applications. Whether embossed on textured stationery, displayed on architectural drawings, or printed across signage, the identity maintains its clarity and sophistication.

 

Conclusion

W2D Studio’s new identity is built on principles of timelessness, clarity, and intent.

Every aspect of the design, from typographic proportions to subtle geometric relationships, reflects the studio’s belief that great design is about more than aesthetics,  it’s about meaning, balance, and precision.
